SYRIAN CIVIL WAR
The Extreme Violent Fight For Power Overpowers The World's Notion Of Peace
Millions of people have lost their lives since the beginning of Syrian insurgence. Over two million people have taken refuge in other countries. Today, even after three and a half years there seems to be a never ending struggle for power. What began as a rebel against the ruling government in one country, now adversely affects the entire world. It all began in January 2011 with small protests. A little later though Damascus (Syria;s capital) and the city of Aleppo witnessed mass protests against the ruling Syrian government. The protests started with demand for democracy and lead to a huge outrage for the fallout of the Assad government.
Syria's Flag 2011
Syria was ruled by Hafez al Assad since 1971 until his death in 2000. After his death, his son - Bashar al - Assad, the present Syrian President took over. Although after the death of his father, when the people of Syria prepared for change, Bashar al-Assad inspired hopes for democratic reforms in the country. But, failed to take any actions towards it. Assad's neglection of reforms created resentment among the masses and they began to rebel. The Assad family belongs to a minority religious group of Shi'ite Islam, comprising about 12 per cent of the total population of Syria. Their tight controls were also a cause of rebel among the Sunni Muslims. After the initial protests and then widespread, the Syrian army started attacking on towns using heavy ammunitions, leading to deaths of hundreds including women and children. This became a major cause for the massive rebellion outbreak. There are multiple rebellion groups against the Syrian government. The Syrian government also has a few allies as well.
